The Construction Process
This construction photos below are of the "Sierra" model
from American Log Homes standard designs. It is approx.
2200 sq. ft. and 1-1/2 story home with loft on a full
basement. It has 12' tall walls made of 8"x6" pine d-
shaped pre-cut logs.
- Logs are bolted to the top of the subfloor and there
is log cabin siding provided to cover the box sill.
- 6"x8" exposed beam second floor joists are
standard along with a 4"x8" exposed beam roof
system.
- The log walls are all pre-cut for window and door
openings and holes are pre-drilled for spikes and
screws to fasten the logs together.
- Each log is numbered with it's exact length and a log
layout assembly sheet is provided to show where
the logs are to be placed.
- The tongues are also removed on the overlapping
corners.
- The gables are of frame construction with a log
siding exterior and 1x6 T&G interior. A 4'or greater
gable end is recommended by American to provide
protection of the logs.
- Marvin brand windows and exterior doors are
included in the standard log package.
- 2x6 T&G decking was optional from American Log
Homes for use in the second floor and roof. 5-1/2"
of E.P.S. insulation boards for use in the roof are
also optional.
- An exterior log sealer must be applied to the logs as
soon as possible to protect the logs against moisture
or discoloration from UV rays. Sealers need to be
reapplied approximately every two years to keep
the logs protected.
